BCU Remote Degree Show Judging 2020.
I was incredibly honoured to be asked again this year, to be a judge for the BCU end of year, Textiles degree show and to award 2 students for the ‘Best Bespoke Fashion Concept’ and ‘Best Bespoke Textiles Concept’ Awards.
I chose Nisha Sahib @nisha.bcu.textiles for the ‘Best Bespoke Fashion Concept’ award for her beautiful collection of bridal embroideries, inspired by a truly unique concept; perfect for the bespoke market! Nisha took architectural elements and blueprints of the Burj Khalifa to inspire her unique shapes and forms. I loved the combination of delicate & traditional embellishment, combined with innovative embroidery techniques such as laser cutting, etching and 3D embellishment. I felt that Nisha’s bridal fashion sketches were incredibly professional and her embroidery design placements were highly considered. I loved that such an unexpected, almost industrially inspired concept had generated such a beautiful/feminine collection.
I also chose Grace Oliver @grace.oliver.design for the ‘Best Bespoke Textiles Concept’ award - for her use of beautifully hand crafted clay and fabric embellishments, creating stunning embroidery samples, backed by a powerful concept! A diver’s perspective on coral reef bleaching. This collection featured a refined and fresh colour palette, incredible textures, individually created unique embellishments, and stunning embroidery compositions.
Congratulations Nisha & Grace! 🌟🌟🌟 See there beautiful projects below with links to all their platforms!
